A WAR against drugs on the streets of Oxford rages on as police maintain pressure on dealers.

Thames Valley Police's Cowley neighbourhood team yesterday revealed they had raided a home in Saunders Road and arrested six teenagers.

As well as arresting the group - whose ages ranged from 14 to 18 - police seized a 'large quantity of drugs' from the property.

The force took to social media to say it was continuing to patrol the area around the road.

Police would not reveal what happened to those arrested or what kind of drugs were taken from the house during the raid last week.

The efforts of the police in the area fit into a wider fight against drug crime in Oxford.

Stronghold, a Thames Valley Police campaign against organised crime, has a particular focus on drug dealing and, earlier in the year, the force named county lines dealing one of its policing priorities for the year.

The phrase refers to a technique adopted by gangs in major British cities like London and Birmingham in which they expand their drug market into other counties.

A number of drug raids have been carried out across Oxford in recent months and, at one point during the crackdown this year, officers were making four drug-related arrests per day.

Heroin is one of the most commonly sold substances and Oxford’s drug recovery service, Turning Point, has about 600 people in treatment for opioid addiction in the city.
