KEVIN Magnussen recorded his first Hungarian Grand Prix points finish when coming seventh in Budapest.

The Banbury-prepared Haas F1 driver’s previous best performance at the Hungaroring had been 12th when he was at McLaren in 2014.

But Magnussen, who qualified ninth, went onto collect six points on a good day for the north Oxfordshire outfit.

Teammate Romain Grosjean finished tenth, helping Haas close the gap to fourth-placed Renault in the constructors standings to 16 points.

Carlos Sainz was ninth for the Enstone-based team, but Nico Hulkenberg was unable to make it three-straight top-ten finishes when coming home 12th.

Grove-based Williams’ woes continued as Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll were the last of the finishers in 16th and 17th respectively.

Despite making it through to Q2, the latter started from the pitlane after changing his front wing following a crash.

World champion Lewis Hamilton took victory ahead of Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.
