A PUB chain hoping to bring an Oxford boozer back to life has revealed plans for massive redevelopment.

The Charles Wells company, which is hoping to revive the Holly Bush on Osney Island, has submitted its vision to Oxford City Council.

The planning application includes extending the pub to one side to increase the indoor area and creating a new beer garden with wooden decking, bench seating and surfaces.

New customer toilets would also be installed upstairs.

The company, which recently bought the Oxford Blue in Marston Street and reopened it under the Pizza, Pots and Pints brand, has further revealed that it hopes to serve food at the Holly Bush.

The planning application confirmed rumours which first surfaced this month that the Bedford-based pub chain has bought the building.

The future of the Holly Bush was first thrown into doubt in 2013 when its Greene King sold the pub and its contents.

It was then bought by a property developer who has since rented it out as flats.

In the new planning application, Charles Wells's planning agent Roger Bell wrote to the city council: "My client identified the site as part of their ongoing expansion programme and wish to reopen the site as a public house and strongly believe that it can once again become part of the valued core facility within Oxford and provides a location for food and drink to residents of the area as well as the many visitors.

The council is aiming to give the company a decision on its application by September 4.
