HOLLYWOOD came to Oxford's Cowley Road today, when actor Kiefer Sutherland met fans ahead of his show tonight.

The star of such films as Stand by Me, The Lost Boys, Young Guns, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, Melancholia, Dark City and A Time to Kill posed for selfies with admirers outside the O2 Academy where he plays a solo show this evening.

He was given a gift of 'welcome to Oxford' cakes by the city's own cupcake maker extraordinaire Julia Atkinson of Happy Cakes.

Sutherland later posed with the delicacies on his Twitter which is followed by more than 496,000 people.

The actor, who also played Jack Bauer in the TV series 24, is performing in Oxford as part of his 43-date Reckless tour, which began at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

“I couldn’t have imagined the depth with which I have fallen in love with touring,” he said.

“To have the opportunity to convey intimate, personal stories to an audience has, for me, proven to be priceless.”

He thanked fans at previous gigs, saying: "To all of you who have come to see a show so far, I would like to thank you for the incredibly kind and generous responses. It has been an honor to play for you all."

Baker Julia Atkinson was delighted by the celebrity's reaction to her cakes. She said: "He was very nice to the waiting fans and hung around to sign lots of autographs and take selfies. Apparently many of the fans had been there from early this morning.

"He wasn't at all diva-ish and took time to speak to them all individually.

"It's very exciting to have a real A-lister on the Cowley Road. I loved The Lost Boys and lived through every episode of 24. It's good to see he's having a change of direction and enjoying success in the music biz too!"

She added: "I'm delighted he liked my cakes. I had heard he was looking forward to coming to England to have a Gregg's - but hopefully he'll enjoy my cakes even more!"

The show follows the release, a couple of years ago, of album Down in a Hole and a string of previous shows, including Glastonbury.

And it's not just his blossoming music career which has revealed the star's talents. His other non-acting skills are running a record studio, cattle ranching and professional cowboy – having won several roping championships.

Potential hecklers at tonight's show would be advised to stay out of lasso range.
