OXFORD station is in need of an 'urgent' revamp according to many passengers and local politicians, including Oxford City Council leader Susan Brown.

Fears that the station's proposed redevelopment is being forgotten have prompted calls for rail bosses to invest in better passenger facilities.

Passengers have become increasingly frustrated with the state of Oxford Station and even the smallest issues have been brought to our attention in recent weeks.

Here we give three examples of why Oxford Station is in need of improvement.

  • Regular passenger Nathan Ford spotted the same bucket of dirty water sitting on platform three for almost a month.

He said: "I have been keeping track of a single red bucket on platform three at Oxford Station for more than three weeks now.

"No one has bothered to move it, it's full of dirty water too.

"It's comical but there is a serious point, it's poor public safety standards by a failing station."

Mr Ford added that he had reported the bucket to a ticketing officer but that it still had not been removed.

  • Commuters looking to share their experiences of rail travel in the county may also be disappointed with what they find at Oxford Station.

Boards for local rail action groups provide less than up-to-date information.

The Oxford to Bicester Rail Action Group (OBRAG) board is blank, while the Oxrail action group noticeboard has not been updated since April 10, 2014.

Fortunately OBRAG seems to have moved online with regular timetable and works updates but Oxrail seems to have given up entirely on the fight for improvements.

  • Customers have complained about the state of the toilets at Oxford Station for a long time.

This picture shows the poor state of the gents, with dirt and grime on most surfaces and an old, discoloured, plastic toilet bowl.

Great Western Railway, which manages the station, confirmed plans to refurbish the toilets but that temporary toilets had to be in place first.

The firm hoped work on the toilets would start in the autumn
