IDYLLIC is the word that springs to mind about Geoff Hill’s winning snap of a narrowboat making its way along an Oxfordshire river.

Sunshine casts a hazy glow over the image, with the surrounding greenery illuminated and water shimmering as two figures stand at the back of the boat admiring the view ahead.

The photograph, taken for this week’s ‘waterways’ theme, was captured while the camera club member was walking along the towpath of the river Kennet at Newbury during his lunch break.

Mr Hill said he had been lucky he had his camera with him and was ‘over the moon’ with the shot, adding: “It’s a good saying, being at the right place at the right time.”

Though we have enjoyed our recent themes celebrating the delights of the countryside next week it is all about ‘city life’, hopefully with a strong showing from Oxford.

There will be a double-page spread of the best submissions on Friday, with the picture of the week appearing the day after.

Happy snapping!
