VISITORS to the Ashmolean Museum will be invited to dress in All-American vintage clothing for a special LiveFriday event.

The museum in Beaumont Street regularly stages a series of late-night openings and on Friday the theme will be 1930s America, to tie in with the venue’s America’s Cool Modernism exhibition, which features the work of artist Edward Hopper.

The Ashmolean’s website said: “Discover the glamour of 1930s Hollywood alongside the American rural farmstead, and be inspired by The Machine Age, The Great Gatsby and the effects of Prohibition.

“The dress code will be all-American vintage.

“Think cowboys, flapper girls, prairie farmers, Bugsy Malone and Hollywood starlets.”

On the night, which runs from 7pm to 10.30pm, there will be hidden ‘Speakeasy Bars’ with location clues scattered around the museum.

There will also be live music from American swing and cabaret acts in the cafe, to cool jazz in the Rooftop Restaurant.

Visitors can watch as ‘Gatsby Girls’ show off their fancy footwork and there will be a performance from

LiveFriday veterans The Dragprov Revue.

Visitors can also watch the 1930s film Anna Christie, starring Greta Garbo, or try on and buy 1930s styled clothing from The Retro Room Vintage Shop.
