OXFORD West and Abgindon MP Layla Moran is urging the Prime Minister to do everything possible to free British citizen Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who is facing further charges in Iran.

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe – a dual citizen of the UK and Iran – has been held in an Iranian jail after being detained on holiday in the country in April 2016.

She is serving a five-year sentence after being accused of plotting to overthrow the Iranian regime, a charge she denies.

The 39-year-old British-Iranian dual national, a mother-of-one from north London, appeared in court on Saturday accused of spreading propaganda against Tehran’s hardline Islamist regime.

Her husband Richard said his wife has been told she is likely to be convicted of the new charges.

Mrs Moran said: “No one should be separated from their family like this. It is heartbreaking.

“Given the Foreign Secretary has proven himself unable to help, the Prime Minister should make bringing Nazanin’s home to her family a personal priority.”

The campaign for Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s release has been led by her husband Richard.

He is being supported by members of his family, including his aunt, Rosemary Gay, and her husband Colin, from north Oxford. Mr Ratcliffe has spoken to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson about his wife’s plight.
