HEADINGTON’s biggest event in the calender is back for another year and promises to bring big changes to the traditional line-up.

Headington Festival will be hosted on June 2 and 3 this year and is celebrating 14 years of bringing thousands of locals to the grounds in Bury Knowle Park.

Festivalgoers will be able to indulge in the two-day celebrations which will include a mix of toe tapping performances along with foodie favourites from across the county.

Saturday’s guests will be spoilt with an array of entertainment and craft stalls and the festival’s extended market.

Youngsters and the young at heart can also get stuck into the celebrations with face-painting and thrilling fun fair rides.

Local caricature and balloon sculpture artists will be also be joining the mix of entertainment at the family friendly event.

Evening guests will be able to exclusively enjoy a family friendly film at the festival’s first outdoor cinema, which have been hits in previous summer events across the nation. Joining the cinema will be an adult-only real ale and Prosecco tent.

A mobile farm, Farms 4 Ewe, will joining the festivities on Sunday, teaching children and families about traditional farmyard animals in a ‘hands on educational experience’, along with popular magician Colonel Custard.

Sports activities run by local groups and demonstrations from professionals will also be hosted by Oxford City Council sports development group.

Elsa Bell, who is a member of festival organisers Headington Action, said a big change at this year’s event would be a collaboration with Science Oxford.

The educational charity will be running a wildlife photography competition in conjunction with this year’s festival, entitled ‘Wildlife in your neighbourhood’.

The competition will be open to those at primary school in the next month, and the finalists and winners will be announced by a panel of judges on the final day of the festival.

Young photographers are welcome to enter the event with pictures of anything from worms to landscapes.

The free community fiesta has been organised for the past 14 years by members of Headington Action, a voluntary charity organisation with the aim of benefitting locals.

To help the event run as smoothly as possible, more than 20 volunteers will be joining the members from the group at next month’s event.

The members are comprised of representatives from local voluntary groups, businesses, health and educational organisations and faith groups.

Organisers are still urging local groups and businesses to sign up and secure a stall online at headingtonaction.org
