A VACANT unit in Oxford's Covered Market could be demolished and replaced with three stalls selling artisan breads, olives and other specialist foods.

Plans to knock down the former McCarthy's Fruit and Veg stall and create three units to increase footfall to the market could be approved next week by Oxford City Council.

Council planners have recommended councillors sign off the proposals despite concerns from Oxford Preservation Trust over a 'piecemeal' approach to the market's management and changes.

A decision will be made by the council's west area planning committee on Wednesday at Town Hall at 6pm.
