KuPP founder and MD Steve Cox on the Scandinavian restaurant's arrival at Oxford's Westgate.

WE ARE thrilled to have opened our doors to our fourth KuPP venue and what better place than the John Lewis rooftop in Westgate, Oxford?

With soft streaming light and expansive views of the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, KuPP is our rooftop escape in the heart of this amazing and historic city. Although you can get to us through the John Lewis store, we have our own street entrance and are open in the morning and evenings even when the store is closed.

Partnering with John Lewis on KuPP Oxford made perfect sense; they have championed Scandinavian design for many years and that’s exactly what we’ve set out to do with food and drink!

After many years of travelling to Scandinavia with friends and work that has taken us into the Nordic region, we couldn’t help but fall in love with their food, culture, design and innovative spirit.

KuPP reflects everything we love about the Nordic region with a nod to Scandi design.

We aimed to create a high quality but casual space here in the UK where people could drink, dine, graze and socialise at any time of day from breakfast to mid-morning coffee, through to lunch (not forgetting afternoon coffee), a few cocktails on the terrace as the sun goes down and dinner shared with friends and family.

The menu showcases our versions of some of the amazing dishes we’ve tried on our travels and traditional Nordic cooking techniques such as pickling, curing and smoking.

We describe KuPP as being ‘Nordic inspired’ because we’re sharing the things we love most about these parts of the world in a unique UK context and in a way that is always a little bit different from the norm but never completely foreign.

We serve Scandi dishes like Beetroot Stained Gravadlax or KuPP’s Signature House Smoked Meatballs alongside more familiar favourites like the Mighty KuPP Klub (come hungry!) and our Proper Pork Sausage Swede Dog.

If there is one thing on our menu that perfectly illustrates what we’re all about at KuPP, it’s a smörgåsbord.

We have three signature ‘bords’ – the KuPP, Fiske and Veggie – all of which are served on long sharing platters piled high with a selection of our favourite ingredients from meaty morsels to fresh seafood and deliciously colourful vegetarian options all served with sourdough and Leksands Knäcke crispbread.

They’re designed for grazing and sharing because that’s the way we think food is meant to be enjoyed – among good friends and family, in a relaxed setting, with a glass of wine in hand.

This Nordic inspiration extends to our cocktails with signature twists on classic drinks including the Scandinavian Smash (a riff on a mojito featuring Dild Aquavit and fresh dill) as well as entirely new creations like the Spiced Päron featuring pickled pear and a beetroot shrub.

We’ve also recently launched our own KuPP Lager, an easy drinking, light and refreshing beer that is very moreish (if we do say so ourselves).

Alongside the bar and restaurant space at KuPP, we also have the Store where we sell bags of our own blend coffee (it’s delicious!) as well as some of our favourite Nordic products like cloudberry jam and a range of homeware and décor pieces that embrace the KuPP style and culture.

And then there’s the Fika café!

Translated from Swedish, Fika means “to have coffee” but really it’s so much more than that. It’s about slowing down, stopping what you’re doing and taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the day to simply appreciate the good things in life over a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.

Our Fika selection includes freshly baked pastries and cakes created by our Danish baker, Sødt, especially for us as well as a variety of smørrebrød (open sandwiches).

We’re really enjoying our new home in Oxford and can’t wait to throw open the doors and soak up some sunshine on the terrace this summer!
