OXFORD Hawks were in devastating form in their South League double-header scoring eight goals against both Oxford University and Horsham.

These results have taken Hawks top of the Premier 1 table, following London Edwardians’ surprise defeat by Old Cranleighans.

The Dark Blues were hammered 8-2 in Saturday’s match, while 24 hours later Hawks trounced Horsham 8-1.

The remarkable coincidence was that Hawks’ goalscorers were identical in the two games, with Jack Biggs and Andy Watts netting hat-tricks, and Ted Bennett and Matt Wood adding one each.

The match against the University was decided in the first eight minutes by which time Hawks were 3-0 ahead courtesy of two penalty corner strikes by Biggs and an open play effort from Watts.

The Blues pulled one goal back from a penalty corner before Watts and Wood made it 5-1 at half-time.

After the students scored their second, Biggs completed his hat-trick

With solid performances from Kieran Roche and debutant Mike Cullimore, who moved to Hawks from National Premier side Reading during the mid-season break, Hawks added further goals from Bennett and Watts, who completed his treble.

Hawks again got off to a flier against Horsham, Biggs firing home two short corners, while Watts (2) and Wood made it 5-0 after just 15 minutes.

Watts completed his second hat-trick of the weekend before the interval.

Easing off, Hawks added just two in the second half from Biggs, for his second treble, and Bennett.

Oxford got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Wallingford in Regional 1.

A brace from Chris Sewell and a neat finish from Tim Burns secured the three points for Oxford.

Keeper Guy Harrop kept Wallingford in the game with a number of fine saves.
