OXFORD actress Florence Pugh is in the running for a Bafta Rising Star award after making the shortlist.

The 22-year-old former Cokethorpe School, Wychwood School and St Edward’s School student is one of five stars nominated in the Bafta shortlist predicting the stars set for future success in the film world.

Miss Pugh was praised for her debut in 2014's The Falling as well as 2016's Lady Macbeth, which won her the Evening Standard's breakthrough of the year award.

She said: "I feel truly honoured to be nominated for an EE Rising Star Award.

"The journey to get to this rewarding moment has been exhilarating, and so to feel recognition for doing something I love and the hard work many have put in feels very touching.

"It's a very proud moment indeed."

The British actors joining Miss Pugh in the shortlist are Daniel Kaluuya from the 2017 horror film Get Out and Josh O'Connor who has been lauded for his role in 2017 film God's Own Country and has also appeared in popular British TV shows such as Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street and The Durrells.

They are up against American actor Timothee Chalamet, 22, who has already earned a best actor Golden Globe nomination for his role in Call Me By Your Name, and Tessa Thompson who won fans with her role as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok.
