JOHN Lewis prides itself on being 'never knowingly undersold', though it seems its own staff have failed to take the motto to heart.
One sales shopper at the department store's new flagship shop in Oxford's Westgate spotted this questionable retail tactic while browsing the clearance sale.
That's not how sales work @johnlewisretail 🤔🧐🤦 I know you're into the whole "never knowingly undersold" ting, but this is too much 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 #retailfail #sales #shopping @ted_baker pic.twitter.com/jJjF68tmn3

This Ted Baker garment had been 'reduced' from £49, though the sale price has been set at £69.
After tweeting John Lewis to complain, the retail giant acknowledged its mistake, conceding that 'someone needs to go back to school' and promising to rectify the error.
Hi Sophie, sorry about that! Think someone needs to go back to school as that's not a lower number. Can you let me know which shop this was? I'll make sure this gets fixed! ~ Peter
