OXFORD United chairman Darryl Eales says the club will continue to look at all possibilities in a bid to resolve their long-term future.

Potential sites to build a new stadium at either Water Eaton or Stratfield Brake, near Kidlington, have been ruled out by Cherwell District Council after a meeting involving key stakeholders.

And with just eight years left on their current agreement at the Kassam Stadium, time is ticking on where the U’s will call home in years to come.

“I have always been open-minded on the issue, but the most important thing is that it is the best long-term solution for Oxford United,” Mr Eales said.

“Water Eaton had been mentioned, but we have been now told that the probability of there ever being a stadium there is very low indeed, and even if there was a chance, it would take a minimum of 10 years.

“So it looks like that’s that.

“But I am happy to work hard with any council to see if there are any sites that would be suitable.”

United supporters’ trust OxVox, who were also in attendance at the meeting where Cherwell DC revealed the sites were ‘not viable’, are urging fans to have their say on the matter.

They have called a members’ meeting at the Masons Arms, Headington, on Wednesday, January 10, where one of the key agenda items will be ‘stadium’ related.

It is understood OxVox will be inviting key council officers to attend.
