THE European Union Withdrawal Bill is a huge threat to Oxford’s car factory, its universities and our hospitals. It could undermine peace in Ireland, rights at work and our prosperity.
Before quitting the rest of the EU, the British people, one way or another, should have a say on whether they support the new arrangements. Through another referendum, a General Election or a vote in Parliament, the people of this country must decide.
Democracy is not a vote-once-only-and-never-again affair. The people of Oxfordshire, most of whom voted to remain, deserve to be heard. There can be no blank cheque for Theresa May and her incompetent handling of Brexit talks.
In or out, Oxford’s future will always be at the heart of Europe. My message to all Oxfordshire’s MPs is give the democratic and sovereign people of the United Kingdom an ongoing say about our future as Europeans.
