A STRONG spine, good character development and a solid structure: sometimes, the qualities of a good book are also what you need to be a good librarian.

For the next month, the team from Oxford's central library are going to be fully booked, moving their entire catalogue from their temporary home at Oxford Castle to their revamped (old) home at the new Westgate Centre.

The team moved out of the shopping centre 18 months ago when the £440m renovation there started and have been based at a temporary home in the Castle quarter since.

Yesterday, library manager Shirley Toase and her team began the long voyage home.

The newly-named Oxfordshire County Library is due to to open on Monday, December 18, so the staff may have to do a bit of speed-reading to get the job done.

At least it should make a good story...
