I WOULD say you've given us the blues, but it couldn't be further for the truth.

This week's submissions in teal and turquoise, aquamarine and azure have brightened the office and put smiles on our faces.

When we set this week's slightly abstract theme – the colour blue – we suggested the sea and sky might make a good starting point, and several of you provided fine examples: Adele Hookway shared a very moody shot of a blue day at the beach, while Kristina Palm sent an equally atmospheric shot of Ullswater in Cumbria.

Bryan Robertson and Jay Bourton, meanwhile, both used the excuse of blue sky to send in some cracking air show shots.

Diane Braggs and Tess Hennessy both sent us some rare examples of the colour blue in nature – a centaurea montana flower and an un-named pine, respectively.

Ben Adams repeated a theme we've had a few times recently with his captivating kingfisher, but it's such a beautiful picture we had to include it.

Ian Marriott gets bonus points for including a tiny of 'Oxford Blue' paint in his shot, but there was a good amount of local colour.

Becca Collacott, who lives in Abingdon, sent in a glorious portrait of her hometown under blue skies, while Roy Pyniger shared a good shot of the blue plaque on the bridge over the town's Swift Ditch.

Alan Coleman's submission this week, 'Playing the Blues', is in fact the the neo-Greek statue on the roof of the Clarendon Building in Oxford.

Seeing as you all did so well, and on the basis of 'if it ain't broke...', next week's theme is... red.

Hopefully next week's spread will be equally well read...
