The peaks of Peru are in the sights of a fundraiser, who is planning to trek through the Andes for charity.

Katie Jeffs, pictured, who works as a care assistant at Oxford's Warneford Hospital, is raising money for the Mental Health Foundation, a charity that helps people to survive and recover from mental health problems.

During the five-day trek, in October, she will see tropical rainforests, clamber over snow-capped mountains and visit the historic Inca citadel at Machu Picchu.

Ms Jeffs, from Abingdon, said: "As someone who works in mental health, I can see how valuable the work of the Mental Health Foundation is. The trek is going to be unlike anything I have ever achieved before and I'm really looking forward to helping such a worthwhile cause."

Dr Andrew McCulloch, the chief executive of the foundation, said: "With one in four people likely to experience mental health problems every year, almost everyone knows somebody who has been affected by mental health ill-health.

"By trekking through Peru, Katie and 22 others from around the UK are enabling the foundation to help people with mental health problems, their families and friends."
