AN OXFORD charity got creative for World Mental Health Day as they compiled a scrapbook of comments made by individuals’ experience of mental health.

Oxfordshire Mind, based in Osney Mead, started a book relay around the city asking people about their mental health maintenance, via a poem, pledge, art or photo.

The contributions were bound into a book and presented to leader of Oxfordshire County Council Ian Hudspeth.

The entries were submitted to the Town Hall to the Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Christine Simm. She said: “Through being able to talk about our feelings, and listen to others in our communities and social lives, we will remove stigma from mental distress and try ensure we all get the help and care that is needed.”

The 200-page book took four different routes around Oxford and will be stored in the County Hall for six months before it is sent to the public library.

The mind behind the book, Sarah Jordan, said the contributions have been “fantastic” and it will become a new tradition as the book will again be passed around Oxford Mental Health Partnership charities in upcoming years.

Councillor Marie Tidball said: “Creating the space for people to share their mental health experiences, through this book, is very special and hugely important.

“This is also a significant opportunity to tell our stories and share expertise about how mental health services can be improved.
