FIRE cadets showed off their life-saving skills in Bicester as they staged the annual end of year display.

The cadet from Bicester Fire Station carried out the display to chief Fire Officer Simon Furlong plus friends and family.

They showed off their newly-learned skills which they have acquired from Bicester crews over the past year, demonstrating skills such as dealing with a chemical incident or simulated fires.

Lead instructor Pete Mackay, from Bicester Fire Station, said: "We are incredibly proud of the cadets and the effort they put in, in which they demonstrate a great example of teamwork.

"They are learning skills that hopefully will serve them in the future, and even possibly we have the next generation of firefighters starting to come through.

"This day was all about showcasing their skills and they proved that they are more than capable."

During the event the cadets carried out four displays to demonstrate a wide range of skills taught by Bicester Fire Station crew members.

This included simulated fires, a chemical incidents and specific drills to show off their skills, plus one display assisted by the operational crew in a joint demonstration.

There are currently 13 cadets as part of the Bicester area and two new crew cadets Ryan Cross and Georgia Mann were presented at the event with their roles by the chief fire officer Mr Furlong following successful promotion assessments in May.

Firefighters from the town's station instruct cadets on a voluntary basis including a mix of operational training, outside activities, visits and evening events.

the Bicester fire cadets meet during term time on a Monday evening at the fire station off Queens Avenue.
