THE council in West Oxfordshire is letting people know that they can now line their food waste bins with plastic bags.
Carrier bags, like those picked up from supermarkets, and pedal bin liners can now be used to line West Oxfordshire District Council-issued food waste bins.
However, the council notes the importance of removing retail packaging from any binned food items. For example, bacon should be taken out of its plastic packet and fruit out of any punnets.
Food waste is collected every week and taken to the Agrivert anaerobic digestion plant near Cassington for recycling.
Extracted liner bags are sent to an Energy Recovery Facility, where they are incinerated and used for energy.
