A LEADING cycling campaigner has reminded people to keep cool heads on the county’s roads after a video emerged of a clash between a rider and a bus driver.

Thousands of people have viewed footage sent to the Oxford Mail on Wednesday of the argument between the Oxford Bus Company employee and the cyclist near Seacourt Park and Ride in Botley Road.

The cyclist is heard saying “You were incredibly inconsiderate, you cut across the cycle lane”, and the bus driver replies: “No I was not, I was already there and I’d committed.”

Cyclox chairman Simon Hunt said incidents of this kind were common on Oxford's roads as motorists and cyclists jostle for space: “This kind of tension between all kinds of road users and cyclists has always been there because we compete for the road space.

“Cyclists have an entitlement to be on the carriageway but we have a responsibility to behave with consideration to all other road users.”

The man who filmed the argument and asked to remain anonymous said it seemed like the driver had been exiting Seacourt Park and Ride when the incident occurred.

Oxford Bus Company has since said it will investigate. Mr Hunt added: “We have been quite impressed by the bus company’s responses to these kind of incidents.

"They do take these type of complaints seriously.”
