Two swans were among 37 animals mown down on three of the main routes through Oxfordshire in the past 12 months.
Figures released by the Department for Transport following a Freedom of Information request revealed the two birds were killed on the A34.
The road also cost the lives of four badgers, a cat, 13 deer and six dogs as well as one fox and one otter.
Five animals died on the A40 - three deer, one dog and one fox.
The M40 saw the deaths of one cat, two deer and one dog.
In total 2,213 animals died on major roads and motorways in England, including one wallaby.
