THIS was the scene that met fire crews as they answered a call to a road traffic incident in Banbury today.

The whole front end of a white BMW 1 Series coupe had been neatly consumed after crashing through the wall of company Laser Sailing in Swan Close Road, directly opposite the entrance and exit sliproad to the Morrisons supermarket car park.

Paramedics and police officers were already on the scene when the fire crew arrived  just before midday and it is understood that one person received medical treatment while another was taken to hospital.

South Central Ambulance Service was unable to state the extent of injuries.

Firefighters ensured the area was safe and that no one inside the factory was hurt.

Station manager Mark Ames said: "When we arrived the powerful BMW was embedded in the wall of the factory.

"Our immediate concerns were for the driver of the car and the workers inside of the factory.

"Once we were assured that everyone was in safe hands we focussed on the stability of the building structure.

"Our colleagues at Cherwell District Council have specially trained building surveyors that can give advice on the safety of the building.”

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Michelle Archer said: “We had two ambulance crews on the scene assessing two patients.

“One did not require hospital treatment and a second one was treated and taken to the Horton.”

She did not say which of the patients was the driver or who the other was.
