AN OLYMPIC gold medallist cut the ribbon to officially open a hospice charity’s biggest store yet.

Track cyclist turned jockey Victoria Pendleton opened Sobell House Hospice’s new 12,000 sq ft superstore in Bicester earlier today.

The new shop, which will sell items including second-hand furniture, clothing and bric-a-brac in Launton Business Centre, had a strong first day of trading, welcoming more than 400 people before 2pm.

Chief executive Diane Gardner said: “We’re very pleased it got off to a good start and we were thrilled that Victoria came down to help us with this.”

She thanked businesses for their support.
