A CHARITY has warned private renters in Oxfordshire could be missing out on financial help they are entitled to.

Turn2us said there were more than 31,300 people in the county receiving housing benefit but others who did not qualify might be entitled to Universal Credit.

In a statement it added: “The problem is with private renters who aren’t receiving means-tested benefits not being signposted clearly to the fact that they could receive support via Universal Credit.

“When eligible people do eventually become aware they can apply, the six week wait for Universal Credit might mean many will be vulnerable to falling in to arrears.”
