A BOTLEY family's life changed dramatically when their father had a stroke that left him wheelchair bound less than two years ago.

In October 2015 Philip Wright-Lynes suffered a stroke in the early hours of the morning and has been left paralysed down the left side of his body.

But now his family are rallying the community together with a fundraiser on Saturday to raise £8,000 for vital home adaptations that will give back some independence to Mr Wright-Lynes.

His daughter, Kerry, is the driving forced behind the fundraiser at the Seacourt Bridge pub and has invited the village to come along.

The 37-year-old said: "The adaptations for the house would mean an extension of the house downstairs so Dad could have his own bedroom and washroom.

"I've had to take him to the gym to get washed because we cannot get him to the bathroom upstairs.

"He relies on us having to take him everywhere, but with a whole downstairs for him he will be able to move about on his own in his wheelchair."

"He would finally be getting some independence back, which would mean the absolute world to him."

Since the stroke, the family have had to turn their front room into Mr Wright-Lynes bedroom.

Miss Wright-Lynes added: "We've had to cut chunks in the door so he can fit his wheelchair through.

"It has also affected mum because she does not have people round as the front room is dad's room.

"It would make such a difference to the whole family if we could get this extension.

"It has been a long journey for all of us."

In total, the plans for the house will cost £41,000 but the family have already received grant funding worth £33,000 and need to fund the shortfall.

The event at the pub on Saturday will start at 7pm and Miss Wright-Lynes has worked hard to make sure there is something for everyone.

She added: "It is our local, we've been going there for years, I remember working there behind the bar at some point.

"They are brilliant there and said they would be happy to host the fundraiser for us,

"We have got bingo, we've got horse racing and we've also got a raffle.

"Businesses have been really generous we've got things like a Led Zeppelin album and a signed boot of England footballer Harry Kane."

The pub has also been collecting for the family and has a tin on the bar.

Currently Miss Wright-Lynes has raised £2,480 of the target.
