UPDATE: Lewis Stratford jailed for A34 death

A driver who killed a man on the A34 while using his mobile phone is to be sentenced today.

Lewis Stratford had made a series of 'emotional calls' moments before he ploughed through the central reservation near the Milton Interchange and killed Gavin Roberts, 28, last June.

Last month at Reading Crown Court Stratford pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

He will be sentenced at the same court today.

At the previous court hearing it was revealed the 24-year-old had made three phone calls in 34 minutes before losing control of his Vauxhall Corsa and crashing head-on into Mr Roberts' BMW.

Although Stratford admitted taking calls at the time of the crash, his barrister maintained his device was in a cradle attached to his dashboard at the time of the crash.

Earlier this week a meeting between Stratford and Mr Roberts' girlfriend Meg Williamson was broadcast by BBC South Today.
