THE wonderful world of literature will be celebrated today as World Book Day is marked for the 20th year.
Schools across the county will take part in a range of initiatives for the day, which supports charity Book Aid International.
At Blackwell’s bookshop in Broad Street, Oxford, pre-school children have been invited to attend a Peppa Pig storytelling session at 2pm, with other story sessions on the hour from 11am to 4pm.
Children will also have the chance to design their own book cover and take part in a big book quiz.
At Manor Prep School in Abingdon, and at many other schools, children will be dressing up as some of their favourite characters.

Yesterday St Michael’s CE Primary School in Marston Road, Oxford, was visited by Children’s Book Prize shortlisted author Duncan Beedie as it marked the event one day early.
Other events include World Book Day writing workshops at Oxford Writers’ House at St Anne’s College in Woodstock Road from 1pm to 3pm in collaboration with Waterstones.
The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Schools will be sent packs of book tokens and age-appropriate resource packs.
