FIVE flood warnings are in force across Oxfordshire tonight.

The Environment issued the guidance for the rivers Thames, Cherwell, Evenlode and Thame, as well as the Chalgrove Brook.

The flood warning - which means 'be prepared' - says river levels in the Oxford area 'remain high', particularly at Kings Lock.

It adds: "Flooding of low lying land and roads is expected to continue.

"Levels are forecast to fall over the next 24 hours, but remain responsive to further rainfall.

"Property flooding is not currently expected. The weather prospects are gales and showers, overnight.

"On Saturday showers are possible at first, clearing later."

There were similar warnings for the River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford, the River Thames from Buscot Wick down to Kings Lock, the River Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh to Cassington and the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook.

The prospect over the next few days of flooding still remained 'low', the agency said.
