FORMER Prime Minister David Cameron has backed the Oxford Mail’s campaign to raise money for Oxford Children’s Hospital.
Mr Cameron said he knew first-hand of the ‘remarkable care’ the hospital provides and urged people to fundraise for the 10th anniversary appeal.
His six-year-old son Ivan, who suffered from a rare disease called Ohtahara syndrome, was treated at the hospital before he died in 2009.
The former Witney MP said: “As the Oxford Children’s Hospital celebrates its 10th Anniversary, I would like to wish it every success with the new fundraising appeal.
“I know first-hand the remarkable care this hospital provides and hold fond memories of meeting young patients and their families over the years.
“There is a real warmth of feeling for this hospital in the local community, and a heart-warming generosity towards the hospital charity that makes life in hospital that little bit easier for the children facing such big challenges.”
He added: “I have no doubt that people across Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties will show their generosity once more for this important appeal.”
The hospital want to raise £2m in its anniversary year to help fund a 62-bedroom facility for parents to stay closer to their children.
Other vital equipment, such as bedside monitors and scanners to more quickly diagnose meningitis could also be bought through the appeal.
