RESIDENTS have been urged to attend an exhibition this afternoon about hundreds of new homes on the outskirts of Oxford which councillors say was badly advertised.

Redrow Homes will be showing its plans for 270 homes in south Kennington at Radley Village Hall from 2pm to 8pm.

Radley Parish councillors encouraged villagers from both parishes to attend, especially after they feared Redrow's attempts to publicise the exhibition by post may have failed to hit the mark.

Councillor Bettina Wittneben said she would not have found out about the show if it were not for a representative of Redrow telling the council about it.

The lecturer in strategic environmental management said: "Speaking with some community members in Radley, I could not find a single person who had received the letter.

"Redrow finally, after some exchanges, told me that some streets were missed out in the distribution of the letter (including Pebble Hill – a rather large community of houses also directly opposite their proposed building site).

"Their account did not include my street (Kennington Road), however. They told me yesterday that those homes would now have the letters distributed."

When the letter did finally arrive, Ms Wittneben said the printing was 'so small it was barely visible'.

She added: "No wonder they had advised me that people may have ‘accidentally ignored/thrown away’ their letters."

Redrow wants to build on a green field immediately south of Sandford Lane and east of Kennington Road at the southern end of Kennington.
