COMMUTERS heading from Oxford to London have been warned that the 24-hour Tube strike may affect their journey.

The strike began at 6pm last night and London Underground services will be affected for the duration, with almost all Zone 1 stations closed.

Trains passing through Oxford may also be busier than usual as a result of the action.

Chiltern has said it will run a normal service from Birmingham to London Marylebone, stopping off at Banbury and Oxford, but trains are likely to be busy, particularly south of Denham in Buckinghamshire.

People heading to London are advised that Marylebone Tube station is due to be closed today.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association walked out last night in a long-running dispute over jobs and ticket office closures.

They rejected a last minute offer from Transport for London as well as a plea from Mayor Sadiq Khan to call off the action.

The unions say more than 800 jobs have been axed as ticket offices closed, claiming staff are being abused by passengers facing queues at ticket machines.

TSSA reps rejected the latest offer, following an earlier decision by the RMT.
