A DRUG addict caught with more than £10,000-worth of drugs after police ransacked his home has been locked up.

Dale Thompson was jailed for six months after officers discovered cannabis, cannabis resin and two stolen bicycles in his home.

Prosecutor Cathy Olliver told Oxford Crown Court police searched the 33-year-old's home in Friars Wharf, Oxford, on January 21 last year.

Police uncovered 810g of skunk cannabis, worth £10,000, along with 39.98g of cannabis resin, worth £240.

Two text messages were also found on Thompson's mobile phone, suggesting others were asking for drugs from him, the court heard on Thursday.

The defendant admitted having a cannabis problem in police interview, claiming all the drugs were for personal use.

But Thompson told officers he never sold the drugs to others, the court heard.

Defence barrister Graham Bennett said the 'heavy' drug user charged only his friends for the drugs.

Thompson, who had seven convictions for 11 offences, admitted the drugs were his while police ransacked him home, the barrister added.

It was the first time the defendant, who must pay a victim surcharge, had been convicted for drug offences, Mr Bennett told the court.

The barrister went on to say Thompson was 'invited to store' the two stolen bicycles in his shed.

Deputy Circuit Judge Patrick Eccles QC, who ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs seized, told Thompson he believed he had not been out on the street selling the drugs to users.

Thompson admitted possessing cannabis, a class B drug, and cannabis resin, a class A drug, and acquiring stolen property.
