PUPILS are finally set to return to Windmill Primary School after work took place to fix its heating system.
The school in Headington had been meant to reopen on Wednesday after the winter break but the boiler had broken down, leaving classrooms too cold for children.
After a number of visits from engineers a replacement part needed to finish off repairs was installed on Friday.
Headteacher Lynn Knapp said the radiators were beginning to get warm by about 3.30pm. It means the school is on track to reopen this morning provided that there are no further problems.
The school said that engineers were contacted several times during the Christmas break but did not respond until Tuesday.
They travelled up from London to fix the problem while the part to fix the system had to be sent to the school from Liverpool.
In the meantime parents have been given work to help their children keep up at home.
A post from the school’s Facebook page said: “Thank you for all your comments and shares over the past few days. One suggestion has been some work for children to do today or over the weekend.
“We completely agree and the school website has been updated with some suggested work for each year group. This is voluntary and completely up to parents whether your child has a go or not.”
