HOMEOWNERS returned from an evening out to find their house on fire last night.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called just before 10pm after vigilant neighbours saw the blaze in Hill Farm Lane, Duns Tew.

The fire had started in a garage and was spreading towards the main house, but crews managed to contain it.

At its height, fire engines from Deddington, Banbury, Charlbury and Woodstock attended, with an the incident support unit from Eynsham.

South Central Ambulance and the police also attended.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, the fire service said. But it is believed to have been accidental.

A statement added: "An investigation is currently ongoing by specialist fire investigation officers.

"The property had hard wired smoke detection throughout, which is what alerted the neighbours to the presence of fire."
