EIGHT vehicles were involved in a crash on the northbound carriageway of the M40 near Banbury.
Police and ambulance were called to the scene shortly after 5.30pm last night.
Three people involved were taken to the Horton General Hospital with minor injuries, with another two women treated by paramedics at the scene.
Two lanes were cleared shortly after the arrival of police but one lane remained blocked while five vehicles awaited recovery.
Mark Rodgers, 33, of Kennington, was travelling southbound and witnessed the aftermath of the crash.
He said: "There was really thick fog. It was difficult to even see over to the other side of the carriageway to see how bad it was."
Mr Rodgers said he believed traffic was queuing for about two miles.
