A MAN is being treated for smoke inhalation after he fled his burning home in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services rushed to the property at Marylands Green, in Chiselhampton at about 5.09am.
Firefighters discovered the living room at the rear of the property on fire and quickly extinguished it to prevent it spreading to the rest of the house.
The man was woken by his fire alarm and was out of the building when the fire service arrived. He was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.
The cause of the fire was a wood burning stove that had spread to the timber built extension.
Incident Commander Station Manager Paul Webster said: “Yet again this is a perfect example of how important a working smoke alarm is, the occupant acted very quickly in evacuating the building and calling us out, if the fire had been burning for longer and without the early detection the consequences could have been far worse”.
Fire engines from Slade and Rewley Road fire stations in Oxford attended the incident.
