A COMMUNITY organisation will take over the existing children's centre services in Botley next year.

When news broke that Oxfordshire County Council would no longer fund children's centres throughout the county, residents in Botley rallied to try and ensure parents and their children were not left without support.

Elms Road Children's Centre will offer family support services to families in West Oxford until the end of February 2017.

After several meetings in the village, Botley Bridges was born with Kim Randell as chairwoman.

She said: "In February 2017, the Botley Bridges community organisation aims to take over many of the existing services, running from the same site.

"A transition fund application is scheduled to be discussed in the Oxfordshire County Council cabinet meeting on November 22, and we are confident that they will make the right decision by approving it.

"This will fund services for the short term, but we still have to secure long term funding via sponsorship and grants."

Elms Road Children's Centre remains open for play and learn sessions, health clinic and post natal baby and parent groups and staff are continuing to provide advice and support to families on parenting and child development.
