HUMPTY Dumpty was put back together again at the weekend as villagers in Ambrosden beavered away making nursery-themed scarecrows.

Little Miss Muffet was sat on her tuffet and Jack and Jill perched back on their hill ready for visitors to tour the village near Bicester and spot the scarecrows.

Those who completed the scarecrow route through town were also handed miniatures by three-year-old Lucy Charters whose grandmother Mary Tilley is secretary for the competition hosts St Mary's Church.

Also taking part was villager Maureen Cossens, she said: "I entered it for the fun of it and it was the first time we had made a scarecrow for this particular event.

"It was a great way of bringing people together because the village is expanding so much and so fast.

"I did Wee Willie Winkie and the idea came from my work with as chairman of the village pre-school.

"We used to have a concert from which I still had the gown and candle stick for Wee Willie Winkie.

"The candlestick was also a little part of the old village as it was dug up when the original village school was closed 40 years ago.

"A lot of people put in a great deal of effort for their scarecrows and it was lovely.

"It was nice to get new people included and hopefully it did bring people together."

The venue in Church Walk set up the event for the first time this year and have been challenge families to create their straw masterpieces ready for Saturday, October 8.

More than 10 entries came in and a host of creativity flowed through the village.

Families picked up a map from the church and follow the trail round each project before returning for food, drinks and games.
