A GIANT mixing pot toured Oxford this week ahead of the inaugural Oxford Food and Drink Festival this weekend.

Oxford City Council is taking the pot around the city's community centres, inviting residents to share recipes and food stories.

The recipes and stories will then be collated to create an online resource, Oxford Food.

The council has teamed up with local artist Diana Bell who created the giant mixing pot for the project.

Councillor Christine Simm said: "Food is such a powerful way of bringing people together. We want to tell the story of the people of Oxford through the food that they love.

"We hope this will give everyone the chance to discover Oxford’s diverse and multi-cultural population through the food that’s important to them."

The mixing pot has already visited East Oxford, Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill and North Oxford this week.

Yesterday it popped up at South Oxford Community Centre from and today it will be at the Barton Bash from midday to 4pm.

Finally on Sunday it will join the food and drink festival celebrations in Cornmarket Street from 11am to 4pm.

The Oxford Food and Drink Festival aims to celebrate and showcase the best food and drink from in and around the city.

It will feature local producers, street food and food and drink demonstrations across the city centre from 11am to 4pm.
