THE TASTE of France will come to Thame this month as a French market sets up shop.

The annual market, France at Home, will offer a variety of French classics, such as baguettes, patisserie, dried fruits, cheese and olives. However, the market won’t be limited to food, with gifts including classic French music, hats, scarves, jewellery, leather handbags, and Provençal soap also on offer.

With the holidays approaching, the market will be an opportunity to find interesting gifts without having to travel too far.

France at Home holds the title of the first French market in the UK, and features stalls from diverse regions across France.

The market has become increasingly popular since it began in 1994, and now visits a number of towns in England, including Horsham, Brentwood, Berkhamsted, and Leighton Buzzard.

Frank Chambers, of Crowborough, said: “It is a beautifully run small country market full of French charm and lively atmosphere, which is a great joy.

“The stall holders are of course completely bilingual but it is nice to say a few words in French to make you feel you are truly in France.”

Beginning on Thursday, October 20 to Saturday, October 22, the market will be open daily from 9am to 5pm in the cobblestone area surrounding Thame Town Hall.
