A woman had a miraculous escape after a car she was driving carrying her personal belongings during a house move was thrown upside down and landed in a ditch.

On Saturday at 7.24pm the woman who was moving home at the time came off the road between Newbridge and Standlake on the A415.

Fire crews from Abingdon and Witney fire stations were immediately sent out and found the car on its roof and the side doors inaccessible.

Firefighters had to use specialist hydraulic rescue equipment to get inside and then remove the items which had been thrown around the interior.

Miraculously, the woman was removed from the car and treated for only minor injuries.

Incident commander Graham Turner said: “The driver really was very fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.

“The car had turned completely upside down, there had been a significant impact with the side of the ditch, and the vehicles contents had been thrown around in its interior.

“After we had released the lady from the car, and she was being treated by our colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service we were pleased to be able to assist her further by using the winch that we carry on our fire engines to roll the car back on its wheels, and remove some of her more sentimental possessions to reunite her with them.”
