ARTWORKS inspired by the Ashmolean Museum and Oxford have gone on show.

Art teacher Amanda Beck has encouraged her students to be inspired by exhibits at the museum in Beaumont Street and by popular landmarks and street scenes around the city.

Now their work is on display in an exhibition called Oxford Highlights at the Broad Canvas gallery in Broad Street, which runs until Friday.

Ms Beck, who has been an artist and tutor working in Oxford for the past 20 years, said: "In 2011 I was lucky enough to be asked to teach art classes at the Ashmolean Museum particularly as I have a keen interest in art and archaeology.

"I wanted to share what the students had achieved on my courses and decided the best way to do this would obviously be to stage an exhibition providing an opportunity as a group to show their work outside of the class.

"This is the first time the students have exhibited their work.

"It has been a really positive social experience as well as a creative one."

The Ashmolean Sketchbook Group regularly attend Ms Beck's classes at the museum.

She added: "You will see this reflected in some of the students work from sketches of casts in coloured pencil, copies of artist’s work they admire in the galleries as well as other locations in Oxford.

"I am also exhibiting some of my artwork in the exhibition.

"It’s been a big opportunity and I am most grateful to Broad Canvas for inviting us to be part of their Exhibitions programme."
