AN APPEAL to the mother of a baby girl found dead on a path in Marston has been made to find out her daughter's name.

A funeral for the unknown infant is being planned and police want to be aware of any religious beliefs or other beliefs the baby’s family may have to make they can be respected.

The baby girl was discovered off Edgeway Road in Marston on February 29.

An extensive hunt for the mother by police has proved fruitless since.

Sarah Danzelman, from Thames Valley Police, said: "If you are the mother of this little girl we are still thinking of you – we would like to ensure you are given the support you need.

"Our priority has always been to ensure you can receive any help you need.

"Even after this time, you may still be frightened – but our door is always open to you.

"Shortly we will be arranging for a funeral for your little girl and we want to make sure she is laid to rest in an appropriate way in line with any beliefs you have.

“We are very keen to give your baby a name – a name that means something to you. Please let us know what her name is.

“What is also really important is what kind of funeral service you would like your daughter to have. Do you have religious or other beliefs you would like to be followed in the service?"

Ms Danzelman added the mother could contact her directly on 07470 911038 and said the force would make sure she was kept safe.

Ms Danzelman said: "We know how much the local community in Marston has been affected by these tragic circumstances.

"The funeral service will be open to anyone who wishes to pay their respects."

An inquest earlier in August found the unknown baby girl - found by walkers on the path between University Parks and Marston - was stillborn.

A police investigation into her death concluded by forensic pathologists found she had not led a "separate existence" from her mother.

DS Kevin Parsons said it was likely the girl was of Indonesian or Filipino descent but could not be certain.

Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter said the baby had been left by the path 1-3 days before being found and concluded an unascertained cause of death.

A date for funeral has yet to be confirmed.
