ALICE would have been proud: creatures great and small popped up at Oxford's second annual Rabbit Hole music festival.

In the beautiful setting of the Victoria Arms pub on the River Cherwell in Old Marston, Wonder Rabbits rubbed shoulders with Mad Marston Hares.

The event was the second incarnation of the festival which first popped up at the General Eliott pub in South Hinksey last year.

Organiser Ed Reckitt, who will played with his own band The Wonder Rabbits, said he wanted to bring a touch of "Wonderland" to one of Oxford’s best-kept secrets.

After the pub closed its doors, festival organisers took their event up river to north Oxford last Saturday.

The fun kicked off shortly after midday with jazzy soul from Holly Redford Jones and bluesy American of The Wonder Rabbits, returning for a second year.

Other familiar faces such as Rose Hill singer songwriter Trev Williams, "jazz funksters" The Heavy Dexters and "Technicolor indie pop group" Alphabet Backwards kept the punters dancing throughout the afternoon.

In between bands the festival-goers tucked into far eastern delights from Taste Tibet, who also returned to the festival for a second year.

Tickets cost £5 but the festival was held in aid of two local charities: mental health group Restore, and Helen and Douglas House children's hospice on Magdalen Road.

The music outside stopped at 9.30pm, but the fun went on indoors for the rest of the night with "mad Celtic knees-up" courtesy of The Mad Marston Hares.
