FIREFIGHTERS managed to stop a farmer's flaming field from turning into a wildfire yesterday.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called out to a field of straw stubble on fire in Cassington at 6.30pm.
When crews arrived they were confronted with a field of stubble measuring 150m by 50m which was well alight.
Assisted by the quick actions of the farmer, the firefighters said they battled hot and strenous conditions to contain the blaze, bring it under control and stop it spreading into neighbouring fields and rops.
Station Manager Gary D’Anger from Kidlington Fire Station said: "The current spell of dry weather means that the fire risks in the countryside are currently and likely to remain very high.
"Please take extra care with naked flames or other sources of ignition to ensure that fires are not stared, with the consequent risk of them spreading out of control."
