A YOUNG girl is in hospital after being attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier in Oxford.

Thames Valley Police wants witnesses to come forward after the dog bit a seven-year-old's leg at about 2pm on Monday, in Valentia Road playground in Headington.

The force described the dog as mainly white with brown patches, whose owner is a white man in his late forties to early fifties, around 5ft 10ins tall, of a slim build with collar-length greying brown hair.

He was wearing khaki shorts and was carrying a dark rucksack.

The victim is currently being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital

Investigating officer PC Jason Ferris, based at Cowley Police Station, said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who has information about this incident or recognises the description of the dog’s owner."

He asked anyone with information to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
