1. Police are appealing for help after a fatal car crash in Oxford

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information this morning after a fatal car crash in Oxford yesterday.

At about 2.40am a blue Volvo S60 was travelling towards Cowley on the B480 Garsington Road.

The car left the road, went over the roundabout at Oxford Business Park South, crashed into a hedge and caught fire.

The fire service was called to extinguish the fire but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crews. He has yet to be identified.

2. Blenheim Palace has hit the big screen with a cameo in The BFG

Blenheim Palace's famous grounds make a tiny cameo in this summer's giant smash hit The BFG.

The palace, which was also used in the most recent James Bond film, pops up in a scene in Steven Spielberg's adaptations of Roald Dahl's novel which opened in cinemas on Thursday.

The giant, played by Mark Rylance, is confronted by guards in the palace garden. 

The Duke of Marlborough's home has been used in a long list of films, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Gulliver's Travels and The Avengers.

3. A film production company has admitted health and safety breaches after Harrison Ford had to be airlifted to hospital 

A film production company has admitted health and safety breaches after an incident in which Hollywood star Harrison Ford was crushed by a hydraulic door on the set of the Millennium Falcon spaceship while filming the latest Star Wars movie.

Ford, who was knocked to the ground and pinned down by the heavy door, could have been killed in the incident as he rehearsed during shooting for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire on June 12, 2014, a court heard today.

4. Oxford City FC managing director was found hanged, an inquest heard today

Oxford City Football Club managing director Colin Taylor was found hanged at the club's ground, an inquest heard. 

The 62-year-old, who volunteered at the club for more than 20 years, was found dead at the Marsh Lane stadium shortly after 9am on Sunday July 17.

Coroner Darren Salter described it as a "sad and tragic" case before reflecting that the numerous tributes in the press showed Mr Taylor was a "much loved and respected man".

The inquest also heard there were no suspicious circumstances and that a paramedic from South Central Ambulance Service confirmed his death at 9.22am.

5. A power cut in Didcot this lunchtime forced town centre shops to close

A hapless contractor dug into some power cables this afternoon, causing a power cut to more than 1,300 homes and business in Didcot.

The Orchard Centre, including Sainsbury's, was forced to close during its lunchtime rush as it waited for power to be restored.

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "We closed for an hour although the power cut was only for about 10 to 20 minutes.

"We had to make sure that all our products were safe for our customers before they came back into the store."
